Fairtrade Foundation are recruiting for a Strategy & Planning Officer to play a critical role in supporting the Strategy & Planning team, a small, talented group responsible for strategic planning and implementation, design and project management of critical strategic initiatives and the delivery of organisational governance ensuring regulatory compliance. As we begin to approach the end of our current strategy in 2025, and look to shape our next strategic cycle beginning in 2026, it is an exciting, pivotal time to join the Fairtrade Foundation.

We are looking for an excellent multi-tasker and problem solver to assist the Strategy & Planning management team with project management, business operations analysis and strategy development to improve the Foundation's organisational efficiency. Their role involves a blend of analytical processing, communication skills and business insight. This role is a fantastic way to start a career in strategy, and will provide a platform to learn and significantly impact an organisation.

The Fairtrade Foundation is a fast-paced, dynamic environment, and the ideal candidate will need to be confident in balancing multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, co-ordinating and supporting meetings, presentations and data collection on behalf of the Head of Strategy & Planning. We are looking for someone who can work to often tight deadlines, dealing with complex business issues and managing internal stakeholder expectations. Previous experience at an NGO or within the charity sector is not a prerequisite for this role. Candidates with other sector backgrounds are welcomed and positively encouraged. Key responsibilities and accountabilities

  • Collaboration: Work closely with other Strategy & Planning team members to maintain a consistent and effective approach to the Foundation's strategic planning process and priority projects.
  • Preparing reports: Prepare detailed reports outlining findings and recommendations, presenting findings where appropriate to senior management.
  • Research & market analysis: Research current market trends, competitive companies and industry best practices to inform relevant strategies and recommendations.
  • Data analysis: Analyse and interpret data into actionable insights, to help drive the organisation's strategic decision-making process.
  • Project Support: Supporting the Strategy & Planning team plan, organise and oversee projects to ensure they meet deadlines and budget requirements.
  • Internal Communications: Working with the Senior Executive Business Manager, deliver a calendar of engaging internal communications to the Foundation, updating teams on strategic priorities, updates and information, via multiple platforms and methods.

Deliverables in this role

The Strategy & Planning Officer will be responsible for helping the organisation develop long-term strategies to achieve our wider objectives, specifically in researching and preparing data and market analysis to inform decision making, and in supporting the Head of Strategy & Planning in an calendar of monthly, quarterly and annual plan management forums and events. The Strategy & Planning Officer will manage and update a suite of internal documents, including but not limited to Strategic plans, activity trackers, KPI dashboards and RAID log. In addition, the Strategy & Planning Officer will have the opportunity to plan and deliver a calendar of internal communications on behalf of the Strategy & Planning team. We are looking for someone who can translate ideas and high-level executive plans, into a regular cadence of activity and updates, in order to support the organisation through to implementation.

Experience & Qualifications

Essential:

  • Experience in strategy design
  • Experience in data analysis and interpretation
  • Experience in market and competitor analysis techniques
  • Experience in project management support
  • Experience in working in close partnership with Strategy and/or PMO functions
  • Educated to a bachelor's degree level or equivalent experience

Desired:

Background in management consulting and/or business analysis
