What you'll be doing:

  • Raising awareness with respective site departments with regards to the impact of emerging environmental issues, whether legislative or best practice
  • Respond proactively to environmental incidents, track incidents and actions to closure and perform investigations to identify root causes
  • Working with the operations team to deliver environmental objectives in line with company requirements
  • Promote a positive culture amongst the workforce by encouraging active participation in environmental initiatives and be the subject matter expert in all environmental related activities
  • Reviewing of environmental aspects and impacts for works onsite and advice on appropriate controls as and when required
  • Provide support to the COMAH Environmental Safety Report for all site activities employing CDOIF guidelines, ensuring the site cannot cause a Major Accident to the Environment (MATTE)
  • Manage flora, fauna & ecology aspects across site, which include identification of potential ecological constraints and enhancement opportunities
  • Assist in the ability to implement EMS in operations to prevent pollution and how to ensure suitable processes and procedures are in place taking account of relevant standards
  • Develop environmental strategies across all areas of site
  • Conduct internal audits in compliance with ISO: 14001

Your skills and experiences:

Essential:

  • Environmental NEBOSH
  • Proven experience working with Environmental Management Systems (ISO 14001)
  • Experience with environmental risk assessments
  • Experience in auditing

Desirable:

  • Environmental Degree/Diploma
  • Experience in COMAH regulations (2015)
  • IEMA Membership or member of another relevant professional body
  • Internal/Lead 14001 Auditor Qualification

The Environmental Team:

As an Environmental Associate, you will support and encourage operations personnel to ensure compliance with relevant company and statutory environmental related requirements. You will also take a lead role in actively helping to retain the businesses ISO14001 Environmental certification, whilst playing a key role in promoting a proactive environmental management culture on site that helps to minimise environmental impacts across the Glascoed site. In this role you will be working a 4 day working week from Monday to Thursday.
