The Role:

Our People Department are at the centre of ensuring Northumbria Police is a great place to work and that we deliver outstanding service to our communities. Key to this is making sure we have a robust workforce with the right skills to meet current and future demand. We have an excellent opportunity to join the team as a Workforce Planning Analyst.

What you'll do

This isn't your typical analyst role. Northumbria Police have a wide range of roles and skills that are unique to policing and in your role as Workforce Planning Analyst you will be working as part of a team to provide accurate and timely analysis of our workforce through people intelligence and metrics. Using your strong understanding of workforce planning principles and methodologies you will create detailed capacity and capability forecasts, both short/medium and long term.

In your role you will use your workforce planning, data and statistical analysis skills to create forecasting and modelling tools which will allow you to be able to undertake effective interpretation, skills-based demand analysis, scenario planning and predictive forecasting to ensure current and future capacity and capability requirements meet our organisational needs.

People intelligence and metrics are the key to the success of our team and enable us to develop compelling, data driven approaches, narratives and recommendations that improve the visibility we have of our workforce, improve performance, and effectively plan to meet the capacity and capability needs of the force. You will be using your data insights to create products that showcase your presentation and data visualisation skills across mixed medias.

Key Responsibilities

You will inform, based on appropriate evidence, attraction, recruitment, training and development initiatives through producing and maintaining detailed and dynamic people intelligence and analyses.
  • Design and deliver effective workforce planning, forecasting and management solutions that support medium-term and long-term organisational needs.
  • Development of comprehensive succession plans and skills-based analysis to ensure resources are identified and developed, in a timely manner, to help understand pipelines across the force area
  • Attend and participate in workforce meetings, use data visualisation and presentation skills to support corporate decision making to meet operational and strategic resourcing objectives.
  • Engage with key stakeholders across various departments to gather and share information to meet business objectives and support the delivery of force resourcing strategy and associated plans.
  • Ensure modifications and system changes are up to date, fit for purpose and support the maintenance / development of core systems that underpin the workforce planning function.

What you'll bring:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience.
  • Strong understanding of workforce planning core activities, data analysis and reporting skills.
  • Ability to understand and assimilate complex information.
  • Excellent analytical and numerical skills.
  • The ability to plan and organise a busy workload effectively.
  • A problem-solving approach with an innovative mindset, thinking critically around solutions.
  • Confident in communicating complex information to any audience.
  • Knowledge of the Microsoft 365 package of programmes including Advanced Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Power BI and Forms,
  • Understanding of budgeting process and business planning cycles
  • Ability to build strong working relationships, demonstrating a high level of professional credibility and a strong focus on customer service ethos.

Terms of appointment

This is a permanent role subject to a six-month probationary period.
