Introduction
The Parliamentary Security Department (PSD) is responsible for physical and personnel security across both Houses of Parliament and provides support to Members and staff when away from the Estate. Its purpose is to keep Parliament safe and open for business.
PSD sets security strategy provides expert advice and delivers an operational service. It does this in partnership with the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) and by working closely with the Parliamentary Estates Teams, Serjeant at Arms and Black Rod's office, Restoration & Renewal teams, the Parliamentary Digital Service, and other key stakeholders.
The Role
The role of the Security Portfolio Team within PSD includes: acting as the customer for all projects with any security benefits being pursued by Parliament; conducting physical security assessments and drawing up security operational requirements; supporting wider projects and programs (including the Restoration and Renewal, and the Commons Infrastructure & Building Portfolio (CBIP), ensuring that security aspects are addressed and given due weight; developing, maintaining, advising upon and applying Parliament's physical security principles and standards; acting as Parliament's principal contact on physical security matters with The National Protective Security Authority (NPSA) and the Metropolitan Police; and ensuring that advisory and governance bodies and wider users of the Parliamentary estate are consulted and communicated with on the progress of physical security changes.
Some of the responsibilities for this role include:
- Acting as the Parliamentary Security Department customer for physical security projects within Parliament's high priority Security Programme
- Conducting physical security assessments across the Parliamentary estate to identify potential security improvements.
- Preparation of security Operational Requirements and subsequent Project Request Forms to commission the implementation of security enhancements to reduce security risks and vulnerabilities.
Skills and Experience
To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:
- Significant experience of assessing physical security vulnerabilities and making recommendations to mitigate risk.
- Experience of working with diverse groups of people, upholding the principles of diversity, equality and inclusion, ensuring that everyone is, at all times, treated with dignity, courtesy and respect.
- Experience of delivering through others who don't report directly to the post-holder, by employing a range of influencing strategies.
- Experience of contributing in a timely way to achieving project or program benefits, working in a collaborative, positive and supportive way to overcome obstacles.
