Job Title: Art Technician/Administrator

Location: The Art School, Sherborne School

Reporting to: Director of Art

Hours of Work: 35 hours per week. Hours of work are likely to be 8.15am to 4.15pm Monday to Friday (with one hour's unpaid lunch break); evening and weekend working and flexibility in hours will be required on occasionto fulfil the demands of the post.

Salary: Salary £19,345.20 per annum (£11.76 per hour), which includes payment for 41.4 working weeks, plus 5.6 weeks' holiday pay.

Holidays: The Art Technician/Administrator is entitled to take all Sherborne School annual holidays except for the full week prior to the beginning and the full week following the end of each term, when you will be required to work. Holiday cannot be taken during School term time. You will be required to work on any Public Holidays during term time when the School is working, for which you will be given a day off in lieu.

Pension:The post-holder will be able to join the Sherborne School Support Staff Pension Scheme on the first day of the month after completion of two months service. Where eligible the post-holder will be auto-enrolled into the Pension Scheme as per current legislation; further details may be obtained from the Head of Human Resources (Bursary).

The Art Department:

Within the Art Department there are four full-time members of teaching staff supported by an Art Technician/Administrator and an Art Technician/Handyperson. The Art Technician/Administrator is required to liaise with teaching staff and students alike to ensure that the correct materials are available for lessons and that students are supported in the completion of their practical work. The Art Technician/Administrator is also responsible for the administrative responsibilities of the department; which include the ordering of equipment specific to the department and accurate bookkeeping.

Duties to include: (Duties - these is not intended to be a comprehensive list of the tasks that will be covered and other tasks will be undertaken at the direction of the Director of Art).

General Areas

  • Maintain clean and safe studios and workshops
  • Prepare materials (paintbrushes, paints, pens etc.) for use in lessons as requested by Staff
  • Ordering and stock-taking of materials specific to the department, reorder and advise on reordering
  • Book-keeping; specifically to maintain budget records for Art materials
  • Assist in the mounting and hanging of boys work around the school and for moderation purposes
  • Assist with the preparation/mounting of work, especially during the examination and moderation periods.

Print Process Areas

  • Maintain clean and safe print workshops
  • Prepare materials for print processes
  • Prepare print equipment
  • Assist in monitoring print equipment materials, collect orders from Sherborne based recognized suppliers

Computer Suite

  • Maintain clean and safe computer suite and associated equipment
  • Clean up after sessions
  • Monitor materials and advise on reordering

Skills, Experience and Personal attributes required:

Essential:

  • Computer literacy - Microsoft Office Suite - Work, Excel, etc.
  • Numeracy skills
  • Flexibility in undertaking varied tasks as required.
  • Ability to prioritise quickly, responding to students requests for equipment.
  • To remain calm under pressure, be approachable and have good interpersonal skills.
  • A good team player who can also work on own initiative.

The Art Technician/Administrator:

  • Must comply with School policies and procedures
  • Have an awareness of and display commitment to the relevant legislation and guidance in working practices in relation to the safeguarding of children and young people.
  • Will be required to attend training sessions arranged by the School.
