Having reached a key point in our organisational scale-up process, we're now seeking a technically-focussed Director of Software to lead our software and analytics team based in Nottingham.

Role Summary

As the Director of Software, you will provide technical leadership to our Software Engineering team. You will also be responsible for shaping our software offerings, driving AI innovation and ensuring seamless integration with our sensor technologies. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, and product management, to deliver robust and scalable cloud-based software solutions. You'll be a recognised subject matter expert, with the ability to make key decisions around technology and architecture who enjoys being hands on as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Lead our architects, software developers, quality engineers, devops engineers, data scientists and project/program managers to create high performance, scalable, and reliable software solutions.
  • Oversee the end-to-end software development lifecycle, from concept to deployment.
  • Supervise quality control process, assure delivery of customer requirements, and manage various project planning and execution activities.
  • Lead data scientists to create innovative AI/ML models in our software products. Leverage data science for monitoring automation, condition-based risk assessment, failure prediction, maintenance optimization, operational reliability, and throughput maximization.
  • Drive research efforts to build AI/ML solutions with Industry and Partner organisations.
  • Lead the team in balancing urgency vs. the incredibly high-quality bar through clear and repeatable engineering processes

Qualifications:

A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (an advanced degree is preferred).

Experience:

  • Proven track record of leading software development teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven track record of building scalable industrial grade B2B software, AI and IoT solutions. Experience in the renewable energy industry is a plus.
  • Proficiency in using cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Proficiency in Containerization, Kubernetes, and Microservices architecture.
  • Experience with cost efficient use of cloud IaaS/PaaS/SaaS offerings.
  • Understanding of best practices in CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, automated deployment and orchestration tools.
  • Experience in implementing fault tolerant queuing and event driven solutions for real time and batch data collection from sensors, CMS and SCADA systems and other operational data sources.
  • Proficiency in using a combination of controls, tools, policies, procedures and secure coding practices to create a defense in depth security solution that protects our network, infrastructure, data, and applications.
  • Experience in handling and prioritizing timely detection and swift response to security incidents and breaches.
  • Ability to translate business strategy into actionable technology execution plans.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
