The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust is the largest specialist orthopaedic Trust in the UK with a world renowned reputation. We are looking for an experienced theatre radiographer to lead the day to day running of the theatre departments at the RNOH. You will work alongside the x-ray superintendent and other staff members to provide an effective and efficient service for theatres whilst adhering to departmental protocols and ensuring optimum patient care. This is an exciting time to join the x-ray department at the RNOH. We have just installed a brand new Siemens X.cite CT scanner. The CT Lead role will be responsible for setting up and optimising protocols on the scanner and training staff while developing their own skills. you will have the opportunity to work on all modalities with training given where needed. The post offers an excellent opportunity for a hardworking, experienced theatre radiographer who would like to develop their managerial skills and clinical skills in cutting edge orthopaedic imaging. The role will be based in the X-ray and Theatre Departments of the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore. The department runs an extended day, 6 day a week service with on call so weekend and out of hours working is required. You will work closely with other members of the team including radiologists, radiographers and assistants and theatre staff. You will be involved in the teaching of students and more junior members of staff to oversee staff competencies in theatre radiography. You will be an integral part of the smooth running of the department and communicate effectively with a wide range of staff and patient groups. You will be expected to manage your workload effectively, applying knowledge and skill to produce high quality images and adapt techniques to meet complex patient requirements and also to maintain excellent housekeeping of all theatre cases on the Trusts PACS and RIS systems. You will also be required to support and deputise for the x-ray superintendent radiographer and carryout some managerial duties such as appraisals and recruitment. You will be given the opportunity to develop your own managerial skills. The RNOH is a leading institution of international reputation in the field of orthopaedics and is a centre of excellence for complex spinal and MSK oncological treatment. Within the RNOH the x-ray department provides essential imaging services to theatres. The hospital has enjoyed recent investment enabling us to purchase new theatre image intensifiers including O-Arm and CIOS Spin machines, as well the opening last year of 4 more theatres bringing the total to 14 theatres. By joining our department you will gain experience in complex MSK imaging and have the opportunity to participate in imaging for research projects. Allocate radiographic resource appropriately to wards and theatres dependent upon demand. Coordinate theatre and mobile work prioritisation, allocation of resources and as a representative of radiology. Work with the X-ray superintendent on monthly and weekly staffing rotas. Ensure housekeeping is undertaken and up to date each day for PACS, CRIS, Dose monitoring. Be familiar with the range of technical applications available on all Imaging Equipment. Trouble-shoot equipment faults and make suitable provision for the service in the event of equipment failure. Assess the clinical justification of Radiography referrals, in line with both national Regulations (IRMER 2017) and local protocols. Act with delegated authority as a practitioner for plain film radiography referrals. Act as an operator under IRMER (2017). Liaise with referral source where clarification is required regarding selection of the most clinically appropriate imaging examination. Act as a point of advice for imaging referrers and for patient enquiries regarding their referral. Be a patient advocate in Radiation protection and Safeguarding issues.
