About The Service

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Emergency Duty Team (EDT) as a Principal Social Worker. The Emergency Duty Team provides an out-of-hours service, responding to statutory emergencies and other social work matters that cannot be safely left until the following working day. Our EDT service is a regional partnership arrangement with the Vale of Glamorgan Council, hosted and managed by Cardiff Council to all citizens across the two local authority areas working collaboratively with partner agencies and other emergency services. We are looking for committed individuals to join our team at an exiting time of the services development.

About the job As an EDT Principal Social Worker you will have a commitment to safeguarding and upholding the rights of children, young people and adults and working in a strength-based, preventative way. In a rewarding, diverse but complex environment, you will deal with a range of cases from child protection to mental health act assessments, and decisions that need to be made in the context of each individual case to achieve optimum outcomes. You will be committed to working in a way that promotes equality and inclusion for all our citizens and work closely with other agencies such as the Police and Health professionals. The contractual hours will be 18.5 hours per week, working as part of a rolling rota which attract additional allowances for working unsocial hours. You will have regular formal and informal supervision from the EDT Service Lead. This role currently attracts a market supplement of £3,000 (pro -rata), reviewed annually, and unsocial hours shift allowances. An AMHP allowance of £2800 (pro rata) will also be paid to suitably qualified candidates. What We Are Looking For From You

We are looking for qualified Social Workers with experience of safeguarding in both adults and children. You will have extensive knowledge of relevent legislation and be commited to your ongoing professional development. You will possess excellent assessment and analytical skills and able to make sound risk assessments and decisions in a crisis. You will have experience of assessment of risk and complex needs of vulnerable adults and children and be able to work both autonomously and colloboratively with colleagues and partner agencies. You will be able to demonstarte high standards of professional practice including good record keeping, ICT competence and prompt and effective handover to daytime services and colleagues. You will have good communication skills and able to work effectively with service users, colleagues, senior management, and other professional bodies as required. A degree in Social Work or equivalent Social Work qualification and registration with Social Care Wales are essential as well as being an Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) for which an additional allowance is paid.
