Job Responsibility:

Job Purpose The School of Law wishes to appoint three research interns to support the work of its research groups. The role will provide support to a number of research groups within the School of Law. (The relevant groups are Corporate and Financial Law; Criminal Law; International Law, Conflict and Security; Legal Theory; Private Law; Public Law and the Scottish Civil Justice Hub.) The postholders will work with research group heads and the School's Directors of Research to provide support for research-related events within the School, communications and dissemination of activity relating to research events and projects, and assistance with research projects and research-related administration. These posts are one-year appointments. Main Duties and Responsibilities 1. To provide academic support to specified research groups within the School of Law so as to develop funded research projects, conferences and other research initiatives in line with the School's research strategy. 2. To assist with the delivery of research-related events, including communication with participants and attendees and publicity, liaison with other School and University staff, and practical assistance during the events themselves. 3. To assist with publicising events and research activity, including authorship of newsletters and social media content where appropriate. 4. To provide research assistance on projects within the subject area. 5. To assist with the management of research activity within the subject area. 6. To take responsibility for determining short-term priorities and prioritising work within a predetermined plan or schedule to meet project deadlines and appropriate standards. 7. Any other tasks set by the Directors of Research or heads of research groups. Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and ExperienceKnowledge/QualificationsEssential: A1 Honours degree in Law (at least a high upper second class honours degree) or an honours degree in another discipline followed by a graduate degree in Law. A2 A comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of the subject area. Desirable B1 Expertise in one or more of the areas covered by the School's research groups. SkillsEssential: C1 Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. C2 Excellent interpersonal skills and presentation skills. C3 Time management skills. C4 Ability to work independently and as part of a team. C5 Ability to work with little supervision. C6 Self-motivation. C7 Ability to accept collegiate responsibilities and act accordingly. C8 Familiarity with use of social media e.g. Twitter, Forums and blog-writing. C9 Ability to work under pressure and meet demanding deadlines. C10 Ability to handle sensitive and confidential material with discretion. ExperienceEssential: E1 Experience of legal research and writing. E2 Proven ability to meet objectives in a timely and efficient manner. Terms and Conditions Salary will be Grade 6, £32,332 - £36,024 per annum. This post is full time (35 hours per week) and fixed term for up to 12 months.
