Job description
DfT's Infrastructure Efficiency and Engineering (IEE) team is an established Departmental centre of technical expertise operating within the central Portfolio & Project Delivery Directorate (PPDD). Led by the Chief Engineer, the team is formed of highly skilled engineers and project managers to support efficient and effective delivery of DfT's projects and programmes across all transport modes.
As a Technical Advisor you will influence the Department's ambitious portfolio of transport projects, working as an integral part of the Directorate and with wider project teams to ensure that major projects are delivered efficiently and effectively.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Using your engineering expertise to provide technical advice across DfT's major projects portfolio, this may include undertaking analysis (such as cost benchmarking) and presenting findings to senior stakeholders.
- Examining technical ALB evidence for advice to Government and the drafting of briefings and papers to Ministers, Boards (including the DfT Investment, Portfolio and Delivery Committee) and senior leaders.
- Lead on promoting the Engineering profession across the Department on behalf of the Chief Engineer, by working with colleagues in the Chief Scientific Adviser's office and the Government Office for Science e.g. management of ‘EngineeringLIVE webinar events'.
- Lead on cross-Directorate collaboration by managing IEE's presence on the Project Delivery intranet Portal, as well as embedding process improvement initiatives by working with colleagues across PPDD.
- Supporting the team's wider administrative needs as required, such as the arrangement of site visits, and management of ‘Plans on a Page'.
