Job description The School of Chemistry & Chemical Engineering (CCE) at Queen's University Belfast, is currently seeking to appoint an exceptional candidate to the post of Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Organic Chemistry. We are seeking to appoint a Lecturer to teach fundamental and advanced organic chemistry at undergraduate, masters, and PhD levels, including practical organic chemistry, and to undertake a programme of independent high-level research in organic chemistry which enhances and augments the research already undertaken within the School. Candidates are particularly sought with a focus on reaction methodology or digital chemistry, but eligible candidates in all research areas will be considered. About the person:The successful candidate must have, and your CV/cover letter should clearly demonstrate you have:
  • An Honours degree in chemistry or closely related subject.
  • A PhD in organic chemistry or a related subject.
  • Postdoctoral or industrial experience appropriate to the position of a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer. Applicants at Senior Lecturer should demonstrate a record of sustained contribution to research activity, securing significant external funding and successful PhD supervision through to completion.
  • Recent relevant experience of teaching and assessing organic chemistry at University level. Applicants at Senior Lecturer level should demonstrate substantial teaching experience at University level having designed new and innovative modules/pathways or approaches to teaching.
  • Proven ability to plan and deliver a programme of high-quality research.
  • Ability to prepare journal and conference papers and grant applications. Applicants should demonstrate the number and quality of publications commensurate with their career stage.
Please note that the following essential criteria only apply to Senior Lecturer:
  • Evidence of leading a sustained programme of research.
  • Evidence of securing significant competitively awarded external funding.
  • Successful supervision of PhD student(s) to completion as primary supervisor.
  • Substantial teaching experience at University level having designed new innovative modules, pathways or approaches to teaching.
  • You have completed PGCHET (or equivalent) and/or membership of an appropriate professional and/or teaching body eg HEA.
