Community Development Officer
Job description Do you have a passion and drive to help people, shape communities and make positive long-lasting change? As part of the Communications and Communities Service within South Cambridgeshire District Council, this role will give you the chance to deliver community development and engagement activities alongside a wide-ranging and exciting team that puts communities at the heart of its work. The post holder will promote and help develop the community in Marleigh, liaising with external agencies and in particular Hill Marshall, master developer for this growing new town, Land Trust, L&Q, Fen Ditton Parish Council, small enterprises, the existing community and new residents. Experience of developing and coordinating projects, voluntary or community work, seeking external funding, building relationships and organising activities will be required. As a Community Development Officer you must be proactive and enthusiastic with excellent communication skills. You'll be able to motivate and inspire others, as well as effectively prioritise your workload. Specifically, you will:
- Be a single point of contact for Marleigh community enquires
- Help to plan and deliver a community engagement program and initiatives
- Inspire residents to take action to grow their community
- Recruit, train, support and enable volunteer leaders
- Support emergent community groups to form and grow
- Act as a link between local leaders, partners and interest groups
The role offers flexibility in the hours worked but some evening and weekend work will be required. We are currently taking part in a 4 day working week (32 hours per week) to improve recruitment and retention and support the wellbeing of our colleagues.
