Fixed Term Contract for 4 Years

37 hours per week

Point 1 - £12,880 a year - initial salary for all new starters for the first 12 months of the apprenticeship.

Progression of pay after 12 months are complete as follows:

Point 2 - £17,307 a year - completed 12 months and aged 18 - 20

Point 3 - £23,023 a year - completed 12 months and aged 21+

Are you passionate about the environment and eager to make a difference? If so, we have a vacancy for an Environmental Health Officer Apprentice.

You will work over the course of your apprenticeship in three principal areas, Food Safety and Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Protection and Private Sector Housing.

These teams have a broad range of responsibilities for matters such as air quality improvements in the district, noise nuisance, contaminated land, food hygiene inspections, food safety, health and safety in workplaces, accident investigations, infectious disease control, housing conditions in the private rented sectors and licensing of Houses in Multiple Occupation. Over the course of your apprenticeship, you will develop a broad skillset and an understanding of a complex range of issues.

The post presents an ideal opportunity for a person who has an interest in the impact of human made hazards in the world around us, the air we breathe, the food we eat, water we drink and the housing we live in. We would also be interested to hear from individuals that are looking to make a difference to the public's health and wellbeing, put their interests into practice.

On this apprenticeship you will study for a degree in Environmental Health with the University of Wolverhampton. Further details on the course can be found here.

You will have guidance and support whilst working within a team that places a high value on teamwork, customer focus, professionalism, responsibility, and creativity. You will need to be able to work on your own initiative and as part of a team, in all cases will have the support of your team leader and a mentor.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, reliable person to join our team. You must be an excellent communicator; Able to demonstrate ability to plan/prioritise and sequence multiple and potentially conflicting priorities; be a problem solver and computer literate.

You will also need a full driving licence and access to a vehicle to undertake duties across the entire district.

We work flexibly in Warwick, and support working at home or flexible working patterns that enable you to tailor your working and personal life. We provide the equipment and tools to enable you to work flexibly, and in return ask you to use that flexibility to be creative and ambitious in the services we deliver.

You will be expected to be based in the office when required, for example to carry out work/inspections and interventions in the district, attend meetings and be available for the occasional out of hours work, sometimes at the weekend to respond to complaints. Any costs for travel from home to the office will be met by the successful candidate. However, office and hybrid working are also available.

To be eligible you must have lived in the UK for 3 years prior to the apprenticeship start date and not be undertaking another apprenticeship or other qualification at the same time.

You may not be eligible if you have already worked in a similar role, or your previous learning, and/or work experience covers the contents (Knowledge, Skills, and Behaviours) of the apprenticeship standard.
