The purpose of a Scientific Operations Associate Director is to catalyze scientific research and development activities. This role is responsible for supporting a highly-productive and simple environment for our scientists and may involve leading initiatives in the following categories of work: Lab Operations, Safety, Biolicensing, Scientific Services, Continuous Improvement, Capital Operations, Site Operations, R&D Material Movement, Learning Curricula Curation. The Scientific Operations team works closely with other functions, including Research and Development, Finance, Procurement, R&D Engineering Services, Risk Management, Business Operations, Employee Health and Safety, and Compliance. The Scientific Operations organization plays a critical role in ensuring that scientific research activities are conducted efficiently, effectively, and in compliance with regulatory requirements and ethical standards. By providing operational support and expertise, the Scientific Operations organization enables scientists to focus on their core research activities, which ultimately leads to the development of new and innovative therapies for patients.

In this role you will:

  • Cultivate and leverage influence with Partners and Scientific leaders to drive Simplification of the processes that underpin our sites and labs.
  • Using core operational skills and capabilities (Project Management, Influence, Critical Thinking, Root Cause Analysis….) combined with knowledge of scientific subject matter to operationalize and optimize delivery of Scientific Operations, for example, but not limited to: Lab Operations, Safety, Biolicensing, Scientific Services, Continuous Improvement, Capital Operations, Site Operations, R&D Material Movement, and Learning Curricula Curation
  • Support Development and continuous improvement of internal control frameworks to support key business processes and their associated risks.
  • Act as the primary liaison between the business line and R&D Engineering Services for coordination of site minor works, facility projects and oversight complementary worker support.
  • Driving Good Scientific Practices (GSP) and quality within the labs, ensuring ways of working are fit for purpose and labs are designed and setup for optimized use. Ensure that standards and processes are implemented with a high level of compliance throughout the R&D labs.
  • Coordinating Lab Equipment Lifecyle Management (LCM) activities including purchase and commissioning of new equipment, periodic maintenance & calibration, moves, and decommissioning through effective partnership with internal service partners (e.g. EHS, Facilities & Engineering, Procurement, Lab Systems/Tech, Quality) as well as external service providers.

  • Bachelor's Degree in a Scientific or Engineering field.
  • Experience in safety, safety programs and associated safety related internal control framework.
  • Significant experience in Pharma drug discovery.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

Please note the following skills are not necessary, just preferred, if you do not have them, please still apply:

  • Ability to utilize MS Office Suite, including Office 365, TEAMS, OneNote, and MS Project or Smartsheet equivalent, to track and report project progress required.
  • Experience in operations and/or project management.
