You will play a critical role in driving the continuous improvement of our Plan for Better food waste and circular economy strategies. Working within the Corporate Responsibility Team, you will collaborate with various stakeholders across supply chains and operations to ensure the achievement of our sustainability commitments. This will involve developing and implementing the group environmental sustainability strategy, with a particular focus on food waste and circularity. You will lead the food waste and redistribution programme, working closely with retail and operational teams to create clear processes and roadmaps for meeting targets. In addition, you will drive the Circularity programme across our General Merchandise (GM) business, embedding our approach and building relationships with relevant organisations. Your responsibilities will also include managing supplier relationships, manipulating sustainability datasets, managing complex projects, and overseeing communication and reporting efforts. Your passion for sustainability, excellent communication skills, and ability to work in a matrix-style organisation will contribute to the successful execution of our sustainability initiatives. Who you are

We are seeking a highly experienced and passionate professional with a strong background in environmental sustainability, specifically within food waste and circular economy strategies. With a degree in the field and significant practical expertise, you have a deep understanding of the WRAP food waste hierarchy and circularity principles, as well as experience in managing supplier relationships and complex sustainability projects. Your excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, enable you to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders and influence decision-making at all levels. As a leader, you demonstrate strong project management and delivery skills, always prioritising the achievement of sustainable outcomes. With your critical thinking abilities and system thinking approach, you navigate through complex information and obstacles to make informed decisions that align with Sainsbury's values and sustainability commitments. Your commitment to ongoing personal development reflects your dedication to staying up-to-date with the latest trends and best practises in environmental resource use and circularity.
