We are looking for an enthusiastic and positive individual who is customer focused and committed to delivering an excellent and effective service in the Council's Executor Services Team.

We are looking to appoint a Financial Appointee Officer, to help manage the finances of 800 plus clients in Sheffield both in the Community and Care Homes.

The role involves dealing with clients who cannot or are unable to manage their own finances due to Mental Health, Substance Misuse and other Disability, you will be required to liaise with the clients by phone or face to face regarding their income, bills that need paying and an agreed amount of personal monies.

You will liaise with the DWP to ensure that these clients are receiving the correct benefits that they are entitled too.

For the Court of Protection you will be completing reports for the Office of Public Guardianship to show how you have dealt with their finances, you will need to visit the clients to explain what your role is and how you have dealt with their finances. You may be required to organise the clearing of their houses, sell their belongings and sell their property.

Each member of the team will have their own client caseload to manage, however working within a team means that interaction with your colleagues and their clients will also be required.

Working in a team:

  • You will have an effective telephone manner and excellent negotiation skills.
  • Provide support and advice to clients to help claim the correct DWP benefits to maximise their income and prioritise payments of their utilities, debts and personal monies.
  • Support clients on welfare reform changes to mitigate the impacts on themselves.

Successful applicants will need:

  • A good knowledge of the Court of Protection (within Local Authorities).
  • A good knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act.
  • A good knowledge of the DWP benefits and changes taking place.
  • An ability to interpret and follow procedures, policies and legislation.
  • Experience of general office-based administration systems and procedures.
  • Able to use Microsoft IT.
  • An ability to learn and understand other IT applications.
  • A good knowledge of inputting and storing information on databases.
  • Good knowledge of online banking systems.

You will work within Howden House and Home Working in the Executor Service team. You will be required to work flexibly, meeting with clients may who call in to discuss their finances.

If you are appointed to this role, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade. If you provide payslip evidence that your basic pay is greater than the bottom of the grade, we will consider starting you at the point of minimum advantage within the grade.
