Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine is a unique specialist institution with a mission to improve health outcomes in disadvantaged populations globally through partnership in research and education. Making full use of digital, interactive and immersive technologies, we will develop new types of provision and awards designed to make our programmes available to students to access flexibly and over time, crossing the virtual and physical worlds.

Against this background we are looking for an Academic Registrar to lead our Student Administration and work closely with the Dean of Education and Chief Operating Officer, to develop and implement the ambitious and exciting Education pillar of wider LSTM five-year strategy. We're looking for an individual with a values-based leadership style, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to translate strategy and policy into effective service delivery.

What will the role involve?

The range of duties will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Provide transformative leadership and operational oversight for the five areas of Registry: Admissions, Programme Administration, Quality, Data, Student Counselling/Academic Support and work collaboratively with other professional services to ensure interoperability of services and systems.
  • Be a key member of the Faculty of Education's senior leadership team and the Education Lead within the organisation-wide Professional Services team.
  • Work with the Dean of Education to develop and implement LSTM's Education Strategy and achieve the key performance indicators for Education set by LSTM and its Board of Trustees
  • Lead on the development of the Student Information System and on promoting and embedding the use of digital tools to enhance the academic administration of LSTM
  • Ensure that critical processes are sustained to meet statutory and contractual requirements, and that LSTM's academic regulatory framework is fit for purpose and compliant with external agency requirements
  • Oversee financial planning for the Academic Registry of the Education Faculty to ensure that Registry areas operate efficiently within budget and provide value for money

What will you need to demonstrate?

  • Knowledge of postgraduate taught education and related governance, quality assurance and student support processes and statutory requirements
  • Significant experience of working in a UK HEI
  • A strong network in the sector with strengths in understanding the HE regulatory landscape
  • A proactive mindset focused on solving problems and seeking opportunities for enhancement
