JOB PURPOSE:
This is a position that will be responsible for coaching and mentoring of all direct reports, creating an environment of genuine employee empowerment to achieve ‘World Class' standards. The incumbent will be responsible for achieving volume, quality and cost targets through the combined team effort of direct and indirect departments.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Continuously improve all areas of operations including quality, schedule achievement, cost and people development
- Plan and co-ordinate manufacturing operations within areas of responsibility
- Monitor, control and maintain the quality level within the areas of responsibility to the company quality standards ensuring that the customer (internal and external) is protected,
- Ensure that the departmental area of responsibility can function at all times in terms of labour, consumable materials and maintained equipment in order to achieve the required volume and quality levels.
- Motivate, support and lead the team through coaching and mentoring.
- Achieve required performance in areas of housekeeping, waste management, and compliance to safety and environmental legislation.
- Control all waste to meet departmental budgets ensuring cost effective use of both company and natural resources.
- Enable the team to set work standards / processes, implement assignments / labour loading and achieve production targets.
- Facilitate the removal of non-value-added work within the manufacturing team in line with company improvement processes (including Six Sigma, Kaizen, AMPS).
- Facilitate team measurement of performance in line with departmental measurables, enabling the team to work on problem resolution and customer protection
- Plan labour requirements and ensure procedures are followed to recruit labour.
- Maintain an effective level of communication across all areas and levels of the business
- Manage level one / 8D problem resolution and facilitate team efforts in level zero / 8D investigation.
- Assist and facilitate training to develop team members and minimise impact of labour shortages.
- Ensure data collection is up to date and accurate.
- Audit all visual management in area of responsibility ensuring any corrective action plans are put in place
- Develop and implement robust problem containment and resolution to protect the customer (internal and external
- Manage and resolve Industrial Relations issues at a local level.
- Monitor team local budgetary spend on overtime, tooling, and other consumable type items.
- Challenge the status quo by not accepting the current ‘situation' as the best or the normal.
- Maintain a level of confidentiality with delicate or sensitive company information.
QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE:
- The job requires team leadership and team development experience in the understanding of technician range of skills that are required within the area.
- Coaching and mentoring experience to enable effective team morale and performance.
- Able to identify team strengths and weaknesses and facilitate training needs.
- Requires a degree of business acumen to enable team reporting systems and procedures to operate effectively.
- Experience of ‘lean Manufacturing' tools and techniques.
- Needs to have the ability to use diagnostic skills to determine faults and lead a team in the rectification of such faults.
- The job holder will require to have or be willing to undertake in Kaizen, Industrial Engineering, Quality and Process Management, Disciplinary procedure understanding as well as ISO 14001 appreciation.
- Computer Literate
- Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to influence others.
- Enthusiastic and determined, highly self-motivated.

- The post holder will be required to comply with all policies and procedures issued by and on behalf of Aston Martin Lagonda ltd.
- Flexibility to work shift patterns, overtime, weekends to achieve production targets.
- Full driving licence is required.
- Able to travel at short notice within the UK to other Aston Martin sites.
Volume protection contractual overtime arrangements are in place to ensure required production demands can be met. Stand up and Stand down balances are managed as part of each employees Working Time Account (WTA).
All production employees are required to align with fixed holidays throughout the year in line with production shutdowns. Your annual leave ‘floating days' are on a pro-rota basis based on your start date and can be taken outside of those shutdowns.
