Job Responsibility:

Overview: London Borough of Harrow has an exciting opportunity for a Victim Liaison Officer to join its Youth Justice Service (YJS). The post holder will provide a range of services to the victims of crime known to the Harrow Youth Offending Team, in accordance with the Code of Practice for Victims of Crime. This key role holds responsibility for the delivery of all victim work, including ensuring that all victims of young offenders supervised by the YJS are contacted and offered the opportunity to participate in an appropriate restorative justice process. The post holder must, at all times, promote and safeguard the welfare of children who live or access services in, or who are looked after by, Harrow Local Authority. In addition, you will work effectively with partner organisations to further develop and deliver innovative, effective and high quality programmes and initiatives to meet the needs of victims of youth crime. As Victim Liaison Officer, it is your job to ensure the victims voice is heard throughout Youth Justice Service processes including pre-court and post court interventions such as Referral Orders, Conditional Cautions, Pre-sentence reports etc and that their service needs are met satisfactorily. The post holder will be required to travel to a range of sites and meet with young people and families as and when required. About you: The successful candidate will have:
  • Knowledge of the Children Act, all Criminal Justice Acts, Crime and Disorder Act 1998, National Standards and other relevant legislation and guidance.
  • Knowledge of the code of Practice for Victims of crime.
  • Knowledge and understanding in relation to the impact of crime on victims.
  • Knowledge of the Criminal Justice Act 2003 and the Children Act 2004.
  • Relevant qualification or equivalent qualifying experience in work with young people within a youth justice or crime prevention setting.
  • Ability to remain professional and within boundaries at all times.
  • Ability to organise and prioritise own workload to meet deadlines and complete tasks.
  • Ability to engage effectively with young people, their families and victims of crime.
  • Ability to travel/undertake visits to schools, young people and other sites, both in and outside of Harrow, as and when required.
  • Qualification in restorative justice/mediation work or experience in working within a restorative justice or other victim focused work environment.
