About the team

For over 40 years Hertfordshire Music Service has delivered incredible musical opportunities for young people throughout the county. The award-winning service is one of the largest in the country, with thousands of young people involved in regular musical activities with hundreds of HMS teachers. The HMS ‘Musical Voices' vision for 2020-30 aims to ensure all young people in Hertfordshire can discover their own unique musical voice as well as the service becoming fully inclusive. Alongside this vision, HMS has also recently been appointed by Arts Council England to lead the Hertfordshire Music Hub from September 2024, as part of an ambitious national programme to provide high-quality music education for all children and young people. Our appointment is part of a major investment in a new generation of the nationwide network of Music Hubs. This investment will help to deliver the Government's National Plan for Music Education, and give all children and young people the opportunity to develop their musical interests as far as they wish, including helping them to begin careers in the music industry.

About the role

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work as part of a team of 4 Regional Managers and lead their own team to ensure the smooth running of musical provision within a particular region, supported by their direct reports (Development Leads, Lead Teachers, and the Regional Business & Admin Manager).

The Regional Manager role will support and work collaboratively with the whole HMS Music Leadership Team to ensure all musical opportunities are inclusive as part of the HMS ED&I action plan.

A key focus of the role will be to maintain and increase buy-in to HMS services though relationship management with local schools and communities, via regular stakeholder engagement with key contacts.

Excellent relationship management skills with schools and other local music organisations will enable the postholder to develop strong Hub partnerships and increase access to musical opportunities for children and young people in the region.

Regional Managers may be required to deliver workshops or training sessions as part of the service CPD programme for both internal colleagues and schools as part of an expanded school support programme.

The role of Regional Manager enables HMS to meet the musical needs of the local community by working with the Music Leadership Team to develop and grow a variety of activity across their region. The Regional Manager will support the local teacher people managers within their region, providing general people management support, guidance and advice whilst taking responsibility for the growth of income and product/teaching quality assurance within the region.

About you Essential:
  • Educated to RQF level 6 and/or equivalent extensive experience of managing or designing music education activities and projects in a range of settings
  • Evidence of successfully delivering musical, educational, and personal outcomes for young people through the development and implementation of high-quality musical opportunities
