Trainee Accountant - Apprenticeship - Portsmouth

Salary - competitive salary

Hours - Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week

Holiday - 23 days annual leave (excluding bank holidays) increasing by one day per each year of service (up to a maximum of 28 days)

About the Trainee Accountant role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Trainee Accountant in our Portsmouthoffice to join us in August 2025 on an apprenticeship scheme.

You will join a dynamic accounts team with a high quality client base and rapidly gain responsibility whilst at the same time completing your accounting qualification with us.

You will learn about the preparation of financial accounts, interpretation of financial data and accounting and tax legislation. Equally as importantly you will learn how to work effectively in a team, how to build strong and lasting professional relationships and also how to deliver exceptional client service. This is a diverse role and you need to be prepared to roll your sleeves up and have a willingness to learn.

Key responsibilities of a Trainee Accountant will include:

• assisting the team with accounts preparations
• preparing the management accounts
• bookkeeping for clients
• preparing tax computations for internal tax department review
• clearing tax and manager reviews
• assisting other trainees and accountants with queries
• drafting company projections
• liaising with clients on accounts and tax queries as required
• assisting with office administrative tasks

We provide you with meaningful support as you undertake your exam training and the exams themselves. Whilst we want you to progress rapidly in your career, equally we will only enter you for exams when you are properly prepared.

We are looking for the following skills and experience:

• minimum of Grade C (or equivalent) in Maths and English at GCSE, and a minimum of Grade C (or equivalent) at A Levels
• excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office with intermediate Excel skills as a minimum
• excellent IT skills
• highly personable with excellent communication skills
• organised, efficient with attention to detail
• able to work as part of a team and ask for help when out of depth
• able to demonstrate drive and initiative
• able to reliably commute to the Portsmouth office
