Applications are invited for a Research Associate position in the Department of Mathematics at Imperial College London, funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) grant ''Predicting Critical Transitions in Complex Dynamical Networks: Reduction and Learning.''
What you would be doing
The successful candidate will work closely with Professors Jeroen S.W. Lamb, Sebastian van Strien and Dmitry Turaev from the Dynamical Systems group in the Department of Mathematics of Imperial College, on aspects of the EPSRC research grant ''Predicting Critical Transitions in Complex Dynamical Networks: Reduction and Learning." The research concerns a collaboration with King's College London (Dr Matteo Tanzi) and the University of Sao Paulo (Professors Tiago Pereira and Edson de Faria, and Dr Thomas Peron).
This position is well-suited for candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas: (random) dynamical systems and ergodic theory with affinity for and/or experience with research in dynamical systems on networks. We welcome applications from candidates with theoretical as well as those with computational expertise.
What we are looking for
- A PhD or equivalent level of professional qualifications and/or experience in dynamical systems or closely related fields
- Clear evidence of outstanding promise and originality in research, with a good publication record, commensurate with career stage
- Ability to carry out original research and to produce published research papers
- Ability to identify, develop, and implement new concepts, techniques, and methods
- Ability to organise own work independently
- Ability to prioritise own work in response to deadlines
- Ability to work with others, especially postdocs and graduate students
- Excellent verbal communication skills including the ability to deal with a wide range of people, and to communicate complex information clearly

Further information
The position is fixed term for 24 months. The expected start date is 1 September 2025.
- Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant within the salary range, £43,003 - £46,297 per annum.
