The role:

Safety Risk & Investigation Manager

You will be responsible for conducting and managing Safety Investigations throughout the business that contribute to a safe and secure operation whilst also playing an active role in the continued development and effective functioning of the Safety Management System.

What you'll do:

  • Conduct complex investigations into serious accidents and incidents related to assets, employees or third parties engaged in the BA operation. Delivery of simplified, accurate, intelligent and consistent reports with measurable, achievable recommendations/actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Support and mentor line area investigators, monitoring progress, ensuring investigative standards are met and that root cause has been identified. Approving preventative actions, raising and managing Risk Action Plans derived as a result of incidents/accidents whilst ensuring the changes made are implemented.
  • Provide expertise and guidance in safety risk management for Management of Change and transformation initiatives across the business.
  • To act as Lead Investigator when required, managing the investigation team (Colleagues, Line Safety Managers and SME's) to ensure the most effective use of resources.
  • Drive the application and continuous development of BA' Safe & Secure culture, communicating identified risks and influencing senior leaders throughout the business to deliver an effective management system.
  • Support the Corporate Safety and Security emergency response plan. Identifying and ensuring immediate action is taken, where necessary, to protect BA interests from safety related risk, demonstrating initiative during ambiguity.

What you'll bring to British Airways:

  • Good understanding of the principals involved with Safety investigations
  • Good understanding of aviation safety, operational procedures and processes.
  • Strong influencing and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across Directorates in a regulated environment.
  • Ability to lead a team in the investigation of incidents and accidents.
  • Working knowledge of UK, EU and US safety regulations.
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of the principles of aviation safety risk management.
  • Knowledge and experience of Human Factors principles (desirable).
  • Strong Interpersonal skills.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Giving and receiving feedback

Your experience:

  • Recognised investigation course training (desirable)
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience of investigation processes and policies in an aviation organisation, consideration given to alternative high-risk organisational experience.
  • Experience in cross and multi-functional working.
  • Experience working with external organisations/regulators
  • Experience and detailed understanding of the fundamentals of safety culture and its application.
