We are looking for experienced and enthusiastic summer staff and managers to deliver successful experiences for our students.
London - University of Greenwich (Greenwich Campus) 26th June to 11th August
London - University of Westminster (Harrow Campus) 26th June to 11th August
Oxford - Oxford Brookes University - 26th June to 11th August
This is a residential position, so full board and accommodation is provided free of charge.
Position Summary
Contract Type: Fixed Term Summer Programme - July to August 2024
The Director of Studies role at Bayswater Education has core responsibility for:
- Attending a senior training course
- Overall responsibility for the Academic provision of the Summer Centre.
- Set up and close down the centre in accordance with British Council and Bayswater guidelines
- In coordination with the Centre Manager, manage the day-to-day centre operations and handle any issues that arise
- Ensure all aspects of the courses operate smoothly
- Manage all Bayswater Summer teaching staff that are appointed in their various posts throughout the summer including preparing rotas, recording days off/hours for payroll, etc.
The nature of the role will require the candidate to work unsociable hours (weekends/evenings/bank holidays); they will work 6 days per week and 48 hours per week.
Role Responsibilities:
Leadership
- Understand and be able to communicate the vision and mission of Bayswater Summer
- Assist the Centre Manager in the creation of a school culture and climate conducive to learning for all students and staff
- Keep the Centre Manager abreast of any issues within the school
Academic Management and Teaching
- Supervise the maintenance of accurate records on the attendance and progress of students
- Ensure teachers are up to date with administrative procedures including registers, records of work & reports
- Line-manage all ELT staff, including any Senior Teachers
- Make sure that teachers are following the syllabus provided
- Observe and appraise all teaching staff in line with company policy
- Carry out disciplinary procedures where necessary with teaching staff
- Play a leading role in the staff CPD and promote internal and external training sessions
- Authorise holiday requests while maintaining optimum staffing levels
- Cover for absent teachers where required or make suitable cover arrangements
Course and Resource Management
- Allocate teacher resources and ensure they know how to access them
- Assist teachers in finding supplementary materials
- Prepare reports, certificates and all other paperwork required
Academic Administration
- Ensure that students are classed appropriately when they join and are moved up if/when necessary
- Allocate teachers to classes according to timetable needs and teacher skills
- Maintain optimal class sizes and optimal nationality mixes where possible
- Listen to student queries and respond appropriately, counselling where necessary on language level, class options, etc
- Manage the completion of arrival and departure questionnaires
Operations
- Assist Centre Manager in maintaining British Council accredited status
- Implement and observe all Bayswater and legal policies and regulations
- Maintain high standards of student welfare and enforce discipline as necessary
What We Are Looking For
Knowledge, Qualification and Experience
Essential
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent
- Cambridge CELTA or Trinity Cert TESOL (TEFL-I status)
- Cambridge Delta or Trinity Dip TESOL or equivalent (TEFL-Q status)
Desirable
- MA Applied Linguistics and ELT/TESOL
- Experience of teaching Business English
- Experience of working with juniors
- Experience of using interactive touch screen TVs in the classroom
- Experience of teacher development/teacher training
- Experience of preparing for British Council inspections
