Job Description
Please note this role is advertised on a 12 month FTC.
Your team: The department is responsible for licensing the use of News UK's intellectual property and trademarks by third parties. We distribute content from our print, digital, radio and television brands for editorial and business use, additionally we also grant rights to use our trademarks in relation to awards or other initiatives.
Your role: This role is focused on preventing revenue loss due to infringements and developing strategies to recover revenue from infringers where appropriate.
The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of and experience dealing with copyright and other types of infringement and a good working knowledge of the law in this area.
Day to day you will:
- Detect, prevent and stop infringements.
Develop and implement a comprehensive protocol for identifying and addressing copyright infringements involving News UK's intellectual property and trademarks.
Implement and maintain a streamlined and effective process related to infringement detection and resolution.
Establish an Active and Passive Pipeline for Infringement Discovery. These channels will search for high-value infringements whilst also establishing internal rapport that allows staff from other business areas to alert the Licensing team to infringements.
Develop and establish fresh, creative methods to detect the use of content without a licence.
Work closely with our legal team to compile information on infringements and build evidence on infringements for consideration of next steps.
Auditing syndicated News UK Content to ensure parties are using it pursuant to their licensing agreement.
Collaborate with other relevant parties within the Content Licensing team to brainstorm other potential areas of licensing growth.
What we are looking for from you:
- Legal Knowledge: Understanding intellectual property laws and the various forms of infringement
Attention to detail: ability to carefully examine relevant platforms and publications to identify possible infringements
Industry knowledge: Understanding of specific industries where the risk of infringements of News UK IP are likely to occur
Research & Technology : Skilled in conducting thorough research using technology including online, tools, AI, services and databases to identify possible infringements
Problem solving: Develop strategies to detect, address and resolve infringement issues.
Commercial acumen: Ability to analyse and prioritise which infringements to pursue based on commercial and legal considerations
Strategy - Ability to develop strategies that align with the overall licensing strategy and balance the needs of various stakeholders.
