About the Role

Stort Valley Healthcare are looking for receptionists to join our busy team at the Integrated Urgent Treatment Centre (IUTC) in Harlow. You will need to be able to work at least one (ideally more) ad hoc shift to cover staff holiday or sickness cover on a weekly basis. The successful candidate(s) will be responsible for providing an efficient and effective front-line service as part of the IUTC reception team at Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow.

The designated service operates 365 days a year, 08:00 - 00:00 seven days a week including bank holidays. There is one receptionist working on any given shift. The main responsibilities of the job are:
  • Maintain a high level of customer care at all times.
  • Welcome, liaise and communicate effectively and sympathetically with all visitors to the department, directing them as appropriate
  • Act as a focal point for enquiries
  • Arrive patients on SystmOne for patients sent by PAH and 111
  • Check NHS Spine for any patients 17 years and under for any Child Protection Alerts (CP-IS) for 111 patients.
  • Manage Task List on SystmOne
  • Answer the telephone
  • Manage throughput of clinicians and highlighting delays to Operations Manager out of hours
  • Contact patients on 111 list who do not attend appointments, and recording the reason for not attending
  • Follow safeguarding process after booking in each child
  • Monitor the welfare of patients in the waiting area and notify a member of the clinical team if concerned about a patient wellbeing
  • Ensure that all administrative duties are carried out in a professional, accurate and efficient manner at all times.

About the Candidate

  • Excellent communication skills, with a clear and polite telephone manner
  • Ability to work in a polite, confidential and discreet manner, respecting patients at all times
  • Experience of working with the general public, being sensitive and empathic in distressing situations
  • Confidence to work as part of a team and ability to ‘think on your feet'
  • Strong IT and administration skills (experience of using SystmOne an advantage)
  • Previous medical or healthcare receptionist experience is desirable

About Us

The Integrated Urgent Treatment Centre (IUTC) is a GP led service supported by Advanced Clinical Practitioners (ACPs) for minor illness. It is based at Princess Alexandra Hospital (PAH) in Harlow and is delivered in collaboration with local system partners, including Stellar Health Care, Stort Valley Healthcare, EPUT, HCT, HUC PAH and the ICB. Stort Valley Healthcare, the Federation, is the joint Lead Provider responsible for running the IUTC. As part of the collaboration, Stort Valley Healthcare is responsible for employing and providing Receptionists. Benefits include free staff parking.
