Part Time: 32 hours per week over 5 days (6.5 hours / 1 day for AHoY and 25.5 hours / 4 days for HLTA)

Great Yarmouth Charter Academy is looking for an enthusiastic, reliable and responsible Assistant Head of Year (AHoY) and Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) (Maternity Cover) to support our pupils across the school.

The Assistant Head of Year role involves:
Providing pastoral and behavioural support and interventions for all pupils within the specified year group to maximise their achievements and attainment across the school.
Although duties involve the interpretation of recognised procedures or guidelines, post holders will be expected to use considerable initiative and contribute to planning over the short and medium term.
Responding independently to unexpected problems and situations. The post holder has access to a line manager for advice and guidance on unusual or difficult problems.
The post holder may also be expected to undertake DSL training and be involved in leading the safeguarding of children within school, under the direction of the appropriate Safeguarding Manager.
The Higher Level Teaching Assistant role involves:
Working with pupils with complex needs including behaviour, SEND (Special Education Needs), mental health, social and emotional needs to ensure they can thrive in mainstream education
Providing support with personal and social development; deliver academic and needs based sessions that help pupils to build the self-esteem, skills, and the aspirations they need to successfully engage with mainstream education.
Working with pupils in a variety of formats; group work, classroom and one-to-one.
Providing academic and pastoral support for pupils as required.
Serving as an additional point of contact for parents relating to academic and pastoral issues.
Supporting the other Designated Safeguarding Leads with aspects of safeguarding and welfare.
The ideal candidate will have:
Excellent numeracy/literacy skills/GCSE (or equivalent NVQ 2 level) Maths and English
NVQ 2 or equivalent in teaching assistance or equivalent experience
Relevant Level 3 qualification for Assistant Head of Year
Experience of working in roles that expect a high level of contact with parents or members of the public and experience liaising with different stakeholders
Experience of working with vulnerable young people with SEND/MH
Good ICT skills
