Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full time Specialist Mental Health Act Practitioner to join the Mental Health Law team, based in either Norfolk or Suffolk with a requirement to work across both counties.

The post-holder may be a Registered Mental Health Nurse or Social Worker, and will work as a key member of NSFT with a primary focus / core portfolio of the Mental Health Act (MHA).

Working closely with the Head of Mental Health Law, MCA (Mental capacity Act) Lead and Specialist Mental Capacity Act Practitioners, you will be responsible for the delivery of a high quality service providing professional advice, support and education to staff, patients and service users: using their specialist advice to enable the recognition, prioritisation and appropriate response to support the requirements of the Trust in the delivery of safe and lawful use of the Mental Health

You will work across NSFT sites in order to provide hands on support to clinical staff by providing expert support, information, training and guidance on issues relating to the MHA.

You will be dynamic and self-motivated, with a passion for safeguarding vulnerable individuals.

Whilst training and professional support will be available, applicants require an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the MHA and MCA with experience of working within a complex health or social care organisation.

The successful applicants will play an important part in helping to ensure NSFT meets its statutory obligations.

Main duties of the job

1. As Specialist MHA Practitioner, the post holder will be an expert practitioner in all aspects of MHA legislation and case law, providing advice, expertise and support to health professionals and managers in relation to implementation and application of the MHA .

2. In order to meet legislative requirements, the Specialist MHA Practitioner will develop and embed systems and processes to support staff with MHA requirements.

3. The post holder will assist in the development, implementation and monitoring of Trust wide policies and procedures which relate to the use of the MHA.

4. The post holder will work autonomously, with minimal supervision. They will provide advice on how legislation should be interpreted and implemented within the organisation. They will collaborate with health and social care colleagues in the region to ensure effective implementation of MHA legislation within NSFT.

5. The Post holder will influence, lead and motivate staff at all levels within the clinical environment to deliver high quality care.
