Join RWE Supply and Trading (RWEST), a leading player in the global energy trading market, as the Manager of our Freight Trading Desk. Our Freight Trading Desk is at the forefront of managing dry bulk freight exposure, leveraging both physical and financial trading strategies to optimize our portfolio. We are seeking a dynamic and experienced professional to lead our talented team, drive our trading strategies, and contribute to our continued success and growth in the market.

The Freight Trading Desk is responsible for managing RWE Supply and Trading's (RWEST) dry bulk freight exposure. The desk operates a proprietary physical and financial trading book within RWEST, which includes a portfolio of long term forward physical positions.

  • Lead and manage a high-performing commercial team of 8 professionals based in the UK and Singapore, fostering their personal and team development.
  • Oversee and own the risk-taking strategies within the freight trading team, ensuring optimal risk management and profit maximization.
  • Assume responsibility for the team's Profit and Loss, contributing to the wider trading team's success.
  • Enhance existing freight analysis and expand it to benefit both the team and RWEST.
  • Collaborate closely with other commercial and non-commercial RWEST team members to foster a comprehensive understanding of the freight trading business.
  • Manage relationships with various global counterparties across different segments of the shipping industry.
  • Represent RWEST and the Freight Trading team's interests both internally and externally.

Your powerful skills

  • Relevant Bachelor, Master's or PhD Degree
  • In-depth understanding of the financial and physical freight trading markets, with over 5 years of experience in freight risk-taking.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to lead by example and empower others to take on leadership roles.
  • Proven ability to build strong relationships with team members, internal departments, and external counterparties through excellent listening, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Capable of making critical decisions in high-pressure environments and delegating decision-making responsibilities effectively.
  • Strong risk assessment awareness and experience in managing trading risks.
  • Proficiency in the full trade life cycle of various structured physical freight deals.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of spot and forward markets, liquidity, risk assessment, volatility, arbitrage, swaps, options, counterparty credit, and contract issues.

Advantageous, but not a must

  • Existing senior relationships in the freight physical, and financial market.
  • Knowledge of Endur and IMOS risk and freight reporting systems.
