Closing Date: 23 June 2024 The Role This is a Clinical Research Associate position hosted at Newcastle University's Population Health Sciences Institute. The successful candidate will be working with Dr. Eugene Tang (NIHR Clinical Lecturer). It is anticipated that this role will provide an excellent platform for the successful candidate to be mentored and receive support from an experienced academic General Practitioner with the aim of developing the candidates research interests, experiences and skills. Hosted by Newcastle Health Innovation Partners (NHIP) Academy, (the career development arm of Newcastle's Academic Health Science Centre), the Academic Primary and Community Care Unit (APCCU) is a newly developed virtual unit which aims to bring together leading experts within primary and community care systems to build capacity in academic primary care within the region. The successful candidate will be working with members of APCCU in order to develop the unit further alongside developing their own clinical academic career. The overall intended outcome at the end of this role will be a competitive application to a national fellowship programme from e.g. NIHR. Key Accountabilities Work in collaboration with team members to develop the APCCU Willingness to engage with influential bodies including for example NHIP Academy, the LCRN/LRDN, Newcastle University societies (Academic Medicine and GP Societies), various GP training programmes in the region, regional HEIs, NMAHPs across the region, pharmacy research departments and other interested individuals/bodies Work to deadlines and manage clinical and academic components successfully Willingness to present progress at dissemination events such as conferences, seminars etc Be prepared to contribute to events celebrating the public engagement of science/social sciences/humanities. A view to the development of a career in academic primary care via relevant career development opportunities for example a NIHR fellowship or similar The Person Knowledge, Skills and Experience A clinically active General Practitioner Evidence of an interest and experience in medical and/or education research Excellent IT skills Excellent communication skills Experience in statistical analyses Desirable Publications in good quality peer reviewed journals (or evidence of manuscripts in preparation, submission or review) Experience of human based research studies (either clinical or non-clinical) or experience with medical education research Attributes and Behaviour Ability to work independently and as part of a team Willing to learn new skills Willing to take on extra tasks and support other projects where appropriate Being highly organised Qualifications Medical degree e.g. MB BS or equivalent GMC Registration with License to practice in the UK General Practitioner Desirable Previous research degree (e.g. PhD, MD, MRes) or involvement in research publications Newcastle University is a global University where everyone is treated with dignity and respect.
