PLANNING & DESIGN ASSISTANT

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Planning and Design Assistant to join an ambitious Land Promotion company that specialises in promoting land through the planning system. The company manages a range of projects from 35 dwellings up to new settlements across Southern England.

This role would suit an Architectural Technician looking for a new challenge. A competitive salary and package is available for the successful applicant on a full time or part time basis (minimum three days per week), with a view to progressing to Planning & Design Manager. This is an exciting role working with a progressive SME with a friendly, open and caring culture.

The Role

To assist the coordination and management of planning applications and take a leading role in the design process, through all stages from design brief to planning approval insuring timescales and deadlines are being met.

The successful candidate will be experienced in residential projects to include working with developers and/or national housebuilders and to be able to demonstrate competence through examples of drawing feasibility layouts and masterplans.

You must have the ability to work well as part of an integrated design team, have excellent attention to detail, efficiency as well as being a good communicator with both clients and colleagues. You must also be capable of working without direct supervision.

We will ensure that you receive the relevant training and support from the team including regular face to face meetings.

Responsibilities;

· Take the role of planning & design assistant within the project team.

· Assist the Planning Manager with appointment and co-ordination of all consultants up to planning approval/condition approval.

· Manage the design process using commercial, contractual, programme/time awareness and technical expertise.

· Attend all design related internal workshops and meetings.

· Prepare presentations and literature to inform external consultation with the local authority and community.

· Complete initial feasibility and testing layouts.

· Monitoring the individual programme, co-ordinating and assisting with the management of necessary actions in conjunction with the project teams and the lead planning consultant.

· Support the Planning & Design Manager in the coordination, negotiation and delivery of planning applications including attendance at meetings with the local planning authority, statutory consultees and the local community.

· Undertaking public consultation events and representing the ethos of the company to communities we wish to build in.

· Ensure the design processes is compliant with recognised current legislation, standards and codes of practice, where appropriate.

· Ensure the design information is of the right quality and keeps pace with project timescales.

· Preparing a weekly progress report of all relevant schemes and highlighting progress or slippage against original estimates/budgets.

Skills;

Someone who enjoys working as part of a dynamic team but can also operate independently, with limited support.

· At least 2 years experience of the planning promotion and application processes

· Excellent communication skills to facilitate working in a hybrid environment (office and home-based working)

· Proficient with AutoCAD and Adobe Creative Cloud including Photoshop and InDesign

· Ability to balance workload as the role may require you to give attention to more than one project at any one time.

· Strong design coordination, planning & motivating skills to maximise productivity and performance and to meet challenging deadlines.

· Broad understanding of development appraisals and cash flow, to inform project viability.

· Organised and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously.

· Strong teamwork and negotiating skills are required due to the involvement of a range of partners in the design process.

We'd love to hear from you if you have relevant qualifications in Architecture/Construction/Building:

· HNC/HND in Architecture/Building Construction or BSc in Architectural Technology or other recognized approved equivalents.
