About the role
The Senior PGR Officer role sits in the Faculty of Natural, Mathematical & Engineering Sciences (NMES) Postgraduate Research team, which provides support for PGR students and their supervisors across our five departments, Chemistry, Engineering, Informatics, Mathematics, and Physics.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is interested in a career in higher education and/or research environment. The Senior PGR Officer role focuses on providing administrative support for future researchers as they work towards their PhDs, ensuring consistent management and delivery of research-degree provision.
The role is varied, and you will undertake a range of administrative duties, including supporting the student lifecycle processes from pre-enrolment activities through to induction and registration to graduation and beyond.
You will be utilising systems and databases such as student records systems, virtual learning environments and financial reporting systems in accordance with best practice, ensuring consistency of data, and identify and resolving issues.
You will work closely with both academic and professional services colleagues within the faculty and across our departments, as well as central university teams in Admissions, Registry Services, and the Centre for Doctoral Studies. This is currently a hybrid role, and the role holder will spend part of their working week on campus and part of the week working remotely.
This is a full-time post (35 Hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract.
About you
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
Essential criteria
1. High-level IT skills and proficiency with a wide range of software including – Microsoft Office – Outlook, SharePoint, Word, Excel, and the ability to learn new systems, databases.

3. Advanced written and oral communication skills including the ability to draft documents and correspondence and work with a broad range of stakeholders in a professional, approachable, and assured manner.
4. Strong organisation, prioritisation, and time management skills: the ability to plan, to prioritise and to manage your own workload to meet deadlines.
5. Experience of delivering a high level of committed customer service including experience of clearly communicating information and responding to enquiries.
6. Methodical, detail oriented and have a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
7. Ability to multitask, and to work flexibly to different and competing priorities and demands – using own judgement and initiative when appropriate.
8. Proactive approach with the ability to work independently as well as delivering as part of a team.
Desirable criteria
1. Strong numeracy skills and the ability to analyse numerical data.
2. Experience working in Higher Education, ideally with PGR students or Researchers and Academics.
3. Experience in the use of Higher Education databases, particularly student records systems (such as SITS), website content management systems (Contensis) or virtual learning environments (Keats).
4. Experience in training and/or event management.
