Are you excited at the prospect of working for a truly global organisation that directly helps to save lives and improve health outcomes for those most in need?

If so, LSTM could be the place for you.

As Philanthropy Manager, you will play a leading role in LSTM's fundraising activity. You will proactively manage and drive the development of the prospect portfolio across High-Net-Worth Individuals (HNWIs), Corporates, and Trusts and Foundations to secure philanthropic support for LSTM's strategic priorities.

You will be working closely with the Associate Director of Development and Fundraising, to help to shape and deliver a sustainable fundraising strategy that increases our philanthropic income, builds lasting relationships with donors, and fosters a culture of philanthropy and partnerships across the organisation.

This a strategic role and you will be working across the organisation, including with trustees, senior staff and volunteers, to cultivate relationships and develop compelling funding propositions. Within the role, you will also have direct line management responsibility for the Donor Insight and Stewardship Officer, and you will be working to fuel the prospect pipeline and build a greater depth of connection with supporters.

What will the role involve?

Strategy

You will develop and implement a robust strategy for portfolio management that drives and secures major philanthropic support for key institutional priorities with a focus on gifts of £25k+. You will also lead and manage an area of fundraising work and contribute to delivering the wider objectives of the Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement Team and External Relations Department. On occasion you may also deputise for the Associate Director of Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement.

Operational Delivery

You will be responsible for developing and delivering strategic and personalised solicitation and stewardship plans for a portfolio of donors and prospects (HNWIs, Alumni, Corporates, and Trust and Foundations) in the UK, and abroad, with a focus on securing five and six-figure donations in line with agreed targets.

Within the role, you will drive continual improvement on the case for support and priority narratives. Working to identify and craft compelling fundraising propositions and donor reports. This may include interpreting academic content, detailed costs and financial information and presenting the information in an accessible style and layout.

Data and Reporting

You will be working with the Donor Insight and Stewardship Officer to ensure effective use of a moves-management system to help drive and report on prospect development.

We will also expect you to monitor and report on programme performance, KPIs and long-term income modelling and you will be expected to effectively manage ongoing data inputting, recording keeping and data management as part of LSTMs CRM.

What are we looking for?

Due to the strategic importance of this role, the successful candidate will need to demonstrate previous experience with high value fundraising, including proven success securing five and six figure gifts. You will need to be comfortable working in a fast paced and agile team and have outstanding interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to present complex information in a clear and compelling way.

We will also need you to demonstrate:

  • Experience in developing and implementing creative approaches to acquire new donors and/ or increase major donor giving and developing compelling and effective fundraising proposals
  • Experience managing effective relationships with donors, stakeholders, senior volunteers and ambassadors
  • Experience of working within an academic, scientific, health, charity or not for profit environment
  • Ability to create high-impact and high-quality written proposals with ability to understand and interpret budgets and financial reports
  • Ability to work as a team member and to develop flexible working relationships with academic and non-academic colleagues and as part of cross-functional groups
