Post Title: Applications and Development Consultant SBU/Department: Library and Computing Services FTE: 1FTE (working 37 hours per week or pro rata) (Part time working would be considered) Duration of Contract: Permanent Salary: UH8 £44,263pa to £46,974pa with potential to progress to £56,021pa by annual increments on achieving designated skills and experience Annual Leave: 30 days (pro rata) plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the closure of our office between Christmas and New Year Location: Maclaurin Building, University of Hertfordshire, Hatfield This is an exciting opportunity to join a diverse team working in the Business Applications team which procures, implements and develops University Business Applications and bespoke developments. Main duties and responsibilities You will be responsible for the planning, design, development / configuration, implementation, support and management of enterprise applications and software solutions to meet University 24/7 service requirements, agreed efficiency and security arrangements. You will also undertake a key responsibility and provide backup cover across the team, such as for selected enterprise applications, software solutions and services including effective liaison with contracted external suppliers where applicable. Responsibility will also include the translation of user requirements provided by business areas, Business Analysts, Information Managers, stakeholders and working groups, into technical design and documentation. Other duties will include assisting with the analysis, evaluation and procurement of software solutions and services and providing specialist advice on current and potential future developments, policy and forward planning. Skills and experience required You will have substantial proven practical expertise and experience at an appropriate level of responsibility in development and configuration of enterprise level software solutions delivering services in a large enterprise networked environment to a large diverse population of clients. You will also have proven experience of translating business requirements into technical design and efficient on-line processes and services. You will also have expertise in enterprise database solutions (e.g. Oracle, SQL) and expertise in ETL. Practical IT skills and familiarity with common computing applications is essential as well as good communication (oral and written), interpersonal, persuasion and negotiating skills. The ability to prioritise, exercise good time management and organisational skills and to meet deadlines is also a key requirement of this role. Qualifications required You will hold a minimum of a Degree or equivalent level qualification, or proven professional work experience. You will also hold a Qualification in computing at professional level or equivalent expertise and experience.
