Job Responsibility:
Data Governance Lead Salary: National ranging from £57,600 to £70,000 and London from £63,300 to £75,000 The team/department The Data Strategy & Services department supports the FCA's Strategy by enhancing the quality and value of data through Data Management activities and providing central co-ordination of all data-related activities. The departments key responsibilities include:
- Setting Data Management Policy across the FCA to establish data ownership and manage and mitigate data risk
- Delivering and managing technology solutions to support metadata management and data quality assurance for business-critical datasets
- Managing data acquisition and collection of ad-hoc data to support the FCA's objectives
- Managing and fulfilling business requests for new data through a centralised process
- Delivering insightful analysis using data, information, and intelligence
- Driving forward business system changes which support Data Management activities
Within the department, the Data Governance Team is key to ensuring that the data that the FCA collects, captures, and acquires is owned, understood, and can be trusted. What you will be doing (the role) This role provides a great opportunity to develop and drive implementation of the Data Governance agenda, joining the central Data Governance team in offering critical Data Management and Data Quality services. The key responsibilities of the role holder include:
- Managing the implementation of the Data Management Policy, controls, frameworks, and standards, embedding Data Management principles and services to govern data across the FCA
- Establishing strong business relationships across all levels of the organisation to support compliance with the Data Management Policy and associated metadata and data quality standards
- Managing the business relationship with the Data & Analytics Product Group and ensure metadata management and data quality requirements are met by the Enterprise Data Platform (the Data Lake)
- Be the subject matter expert on key programmes to ensure close alignment and integration between the data lake and the data catalogue
- Performing a critical role in educating and driving Data Owners and Data Stewards to collect and define business metadata to support data cataloguing and quality assurance
- Line management of resources to ensure delivery of the team's goals

- Proven experience of deploying Data Management and Data Quality practices and approaches using frameworks such as the EDM Council's Data Management Capability Assessment Model (DCAM) and / or Data Management Associate (DAMA)
- Experience of driving Data Management and / or Data Quality implementations within a complex organisation, including metadata management, data ownership, data lineage, data quality, and reference and master data management
- Demonstrable evidence of Data Management and Data Quality tooling (either inhouse or commercially procured solutions) and their application within a large organisation
Essential
- Developing and implementing data governance products such as data dictionaries, business glossary and data lineage diagrams
- Ability to think strategically, contributing to both team-level and department-wide priorities
- An analytical approach to work, able to spot trends and arrive at valid conclusions using strong judgment to reach sound conclusions
- Ability to produce concise and persuasive written outputs and verbally convey any issues in a manner that is easy to understand to all levels of stakeholder and to converse e in both technical (IT/data systems) and business language
- Embedding a data governance framework within an organisation
- Gathering and documenting business requirements and use cases to support the development of data management services and tooling provision
- Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to communicate and influence at all levels and ability to deliver credible findings to achieve positive outcomes
