The opportunity: Junior Buyer -Hard Flooring and Rugs, based in Purfleet, Essex/Hybrid.

About the opportunity:

This is an opportunity for a customer obsessed Junior Buyer to join our Commercial team and support the Buying Manager in all aspects of buying and selling products to delight our customers and of course make a profit.

• You'll work closely with the Buying Manager to support on the development of category strategies and achievable business plans to hit company sales and profit targets.
• This is an opportunity to support the Buying Manager in all aspects of range building and range change. This will include understanding trends, reviewing product performance, understanding the impact of price changes and price hierarchies.
• It goes without saying, you'll need to understand our customers, the market, and competitors, to help develop and drive a clear set of actions to achieve category goals.
• You will also assist the Buying Manager to develop a supply base fit to deliver category strategies and required sales and margins. This may involve helping to source new suppliers or working with existing suppliers to make necessary changes or improvements.
• You'll take part in negotiations directly with suppliers…..about price, promotions, service, ranges and any other matters
• You will work in close collaboration with the Stock team to ensure that suppliers provide the availability of product required to support store sales and customer demand.

About you:

• You will have previous experience working within a Buying or Commercial team within a fast-paced multisite retail environment (preferably with direct Buying experience).
• Of course, you're highly numerate and have at least some negotiation experience and ability.
• You're able to demonstrate some strategic thinking and have some experience in thinking ahead and problem solving.
• You have a clear understanding of margins and what affects them.
• Naturally you're a good decision maker, organised, focused and always with a smile!
• You are a creative thinker with the ability to be action focussed in order to turn ideas into reality
