Job Responsibility:
We are offering an exciting new Quantity Surveyor Degree Apprenticeship opportunity for a school or college leaver to join an expanding engineering business working predominantly in the Oil & Gas sector carrying out civil and mechanical projects and working as a principal designer and contractor.
This career opportunity offers a starting salary of £18,000 pa and the opportunity to gain a fully funded BSc degree (with no student loans to pay).
We are searching for an ambitious individual looking for a career opportunity who will support our office-based team, identifying contracts in the Oil & Gas sector and searching for new opportunities to provide complex estimates and bid for work with tender specifiers running leading national projects. This will require the interpretation of drawings and tenders and understanding how our products and services are aligned, and submitting detailed tenders that match the site specifiers' requirements.
You will join our team of Engineering Estimators on a structured development programme of academic study, day-release one day a week, at the University of Wales Trinity St Davids in Swansea, whilst working 4 days a week in Chepstow. You will gain the required skills and knowledge to become a fully BSc degree qualified Quantity Surveyor over four years whilst supporting the business in achieving its goals.
The role may involve working in various departments on site-rotation to gain a better understanding of the business. The length of time spent in each department will depend on the complexity of the needs of the department and the learning required. This will give you insight into what knowledge and skills you will need to acquire to align with your academic projects and assignments.
Your degree from UWTSD will be fully funded, worth £27,000, and you will be supported with subsidised travel costs. It is important that the successful candidate can drive and has access to a vehicle to travel to university. After successfully qualifying with your BSc degree you will be invited to apply for a position with the company.
The ideal undergraduate will be trained in all aspects of the contractual and financial side of construction projects and given increased responsibilities over time. These will include:
- Identify projects aligned to the business offer
- Prepare cost estimates and budgets for construction projects in the oil & gas sector
- Prepare risk assessments
- Learn how to monitor costs throughout project lifecycles
- Learn to prepare tender documents, contracts, and variations
Required Skills:
- Min of 2 A levels including maths or BTEC diploma in Engineering, IT or Finance
- Strong analytical and numerical skills
- A positive, can-do attitude and willingness learn
- Polite and with good communication skills
- Happy to take on new tasks
Nice-to-Have Skills:
- Knowledge of construction contracts
- Knowledge of Microsoft packages and project management software
- Working with people
