Job Details

Fife Council refreshed the Climate Fife Strategy in March 2024. This post is an excellent opportunity to work as part of the Planning Service's Climate Change and Zero Waste Team, delivering actions to tackle the climate emergency.

The post will work to support projects, place-based action plans and to deliver engagement and training to support Fife Council's ambitions to tackle the Climate Emergency. In particular they will undertake the role of ‘Public Sector Engagement Liaison Officer' as part of the Climate Action Fife partnership project (until 2027).

The Climate Action Fife project is funded by the National Lottery Community Fund. It brings together individuals, communities, local government and businesses to tackle the climate emergency and make Fife a greener and fairer place to live. [ website - climateactionfife.org.uk ]

The post holder will work with the wider Climate Action Fife project team to deliver the ambitions of the project, with a specific role to:

Develop and deliver Climate Knowhow courses to Fife Council and public sector partners. The course is accredited by the Carbon Literacy Project (Fife Council being a bronze Carbon Literate Organisation).

Support communities to develop climate-informed local place and community plans

Develop and deliver communications campaigns, engagement talks, workshops and events

Support community planning partners to integrate climate action into their work and into their engagement with staff and the public.

Liaise with Fife Environmental Partnership and other public-sector stakeholders and support them to obtain organisational climate literate accreditation.

In addition the post holder will support Fife Council's wider Climate Action Fife partner commitments, including:

Contribute to governance and management

Monitor and evaluate activities in accordance with agreed plan

Equality Pathfinder activities e.g., take part in Action Learning Set and adopting equity, diversity and inclusion measures throughout the lifetime of the CAF project

Contribute to communication activities: social media, blogs, case studies

Contribute to Climate Action Fife Festival

The Person

We are looking for an enthusiastic, team player, dedicated to making real change to address the climate emergency. Someone who can work in partnership with public and third sector organisations to:

manage and facilitate climate projects,

deliver training and engagement events related to climate

develop local, place-based climate plans to support community action.

They also need to have a knowledge of environmental policies, legislation and issues related to Local Government, and be educated to SCQF level 9 (Degree or equivalent), ideally in an environment related or other relevant subject.
