Job Responsibility:
Job Title: Head of Project Planning & Control
Location: Various locations. We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements - please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role.
Salary:£75,000 to £90,000 depending on skills and experiences, plus executive benefits
What you'll be doing:
- Providing leadership and management of the Project Planning & Control Capability across the Project Management Function to enable operational excellence across projects, programmes and portfolios
- Providing Operational Support by Chairing / Assessing in Phase Reviews, Integrated Baseline Reviews and Independent Reviews to provide insight on project / programme / portfolio performance and improvement actions.
- Ensuring a sustainable approach to the development of project planning & control resources through talent management and succession planning
- Leading the management and engagement with the appropriate Project Management Professional Institutions (APM, PMI, and AiPM) to ensure alignment of BAE Systems PP&C capability development
- Leads Community of Practice(s) to facilitate shared learning around all sub-disciplines of Project Planning & Control
- Investigating and exploring best practice in BAE Systems and externally to define and refine our requirements for accelerating delivery and growing capability
- Delivering business cases for opportunities to deploy new ways of working in conjunction with Sectors/Businesses
- Delivering the strategic approach to understanding stakeholder objectives and requirements. Working with all interested parties to establish effective relationships between stakeholders, including responsibility for the relationship between other functions and project teams
- Coordinating the promotion, acquisition, development, and implementation of data standards and information systems to enable standardisation and enterprise insights in close liaison with those responsible for PM&C Data and Tools management and strategy
- Maintaining an awareness of the global needs of the organisation and promotes the benefits that project planning & control will bring to the business as a whole
Your skills and experiences:
Essential:
- Comprehensive understanding of project's market, strategic priorities and culture, with a proven background with Project Planning and Control and its value to operational excellence
- Extensive understanding of the wider project management and business environment, and of developments and practices in the field
- Proven knowledge, understanding and experience of project management & control methodologies, processes, toolsets and governance and data (including Agile, Waterfall and Critical Chain)
- Experience of building relationships and negotiating outcomes with internal stakeholders with a proven ability and extensive experience of influencing senior stakeholders to achieve business success
- Demonstrated experience in leading change initiatives
- PM or Business Degree and or relevant project management experience. APM Project Management Qualification
Desirable:
- APM Chartership or progressing towards completion or Membership of Professional Body
- ICP3 / LCP3 graduate or progressing towards completion

The Corporate Project Planning and Control team:
As the Head of Project Planning & Control, you will be in charge of developing Corporate Project Planning and Control capabilities across the organisation, collaborating with Sectors and Lines of Business to ensure that the necessary capabilities are available to enable sustainable operational excellence across projects, programmes, and portfolios.
