Position: New Product Development Executive

Department: Retail - New Product Development

Reports to: Research and Development Manager

Location: Runcorn

Hours of work 18 hours per week. 3 consecutive days between Monday-Friday. Working hours: 09:00-15:00 (flexibility on days and working hours)

Role Purpose

To support the business in the provision of expert guidance on all culinary matters, covering all factory processes, nutritional requirements, and ingredients breakdown to our customers. In this role you will have exposure to all areas of the business to gain a broad commercial understanding of how we work, and an understanding of the market conditions we operate in with our customers and suppliers. Full training on Vestey Foods UK processes, products and services will be provided to enable the right individual to succeed.

Due to the public transport links to our Runcorn office, a driving licence and car will be required.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Work closely with your line manager and/or wide team to develop new products ideas and me-too replication, through bench scale preparation and factory trials. And/or support departmental collegaues in the creation and rebagging of standard factory samples.
• Accurately record all associated records (recipe sheets/ process sheets / sample request forms) to ensure that full traceability is maintained through the development process.
• Gain product knowledge across all categories.
• Learn how to complete market research and present your findings.
• Maintain an inventory of ingredients and finished products.
• Prepare customer briefs and presentations.
• Develop and demonstrate effective presentation skills internally through quarterly new product presentations to departmental colleagues, and externally either to personnel from the wider business or infront of prospective customers.
• Ensure that working areas are maintained in a clean and tidy state and available for use at all times.
• Order and manage samples from Suppliers.
• Send samples to customers.
• Remain compliant with defined Health and Safety procedures.

• Able to engage with customers and colleagues.
• An ability to develop recipes using factory processes.
• Able to maintain composure under pressure.
• Good working knowledge of IT and numeracy skills.
• Personal drive and determination.
• Ability to develop positive relationships with others (internal and external).

Desirable:

• Some previous experience of working in a customer facing role preferable.
• Good understanding of food safety and quality standards.
• Interest in food and an understanding of ingredients and nutrition advantageous.
• Food or catering related qualification.
• Exposure to product marketing.
