Job Responsibility:

The Genomics and Molecular Medicine Service at Nottingham University Hospitals Trust are seeking an enthusiastic, well organised and highly motivated individual to join our genomic technologist team as a Healthcare Science Practitioner. The ideal candidate will have HCPC or AHCS registration as either a Biomedical Scientist or Genetic technologist, or be in a position to undertake training to gain professional registration. Applicants will have a good BSc honours degree, with substantial genomic lab experience. The successful candidate will join a team of Clinical Scientists and Genomic Technologists to provide a high quality patient focused genomic service. The post holder will be required to carry out a range of routine molecular laboratory tests, and undertake analytical work. The post holder will be expected to liaise closely with Clinical Scientists and work effectively with the Genetic Technologist staff. The applicant will possess excellent technical and manual dexterity skills as well as effective planning, organisational and communication skills. The successful candidate will perform a range of scientific laboratory duties in order to provide an effective and high quality diagnostic clinical service to clinicians and patients. The post holder after training will be responsible for undertaking a variety of genomic testing analysis and reporting. In addition to this, the post holder will be required to undertake service development, training and quality assurance tasks as directed by senior team members. The department brings together cytogenetics and molecular expertise into one genomics laboratory service. It is a friendly department with close working relationships with colleagues across Pathology, Clinical Genetics and Cancer Specialities. The department is accredited by the National School of Healthcare Science and the Institute of Biomedical Medical Science as a training laboratory, supporting staff development and training opportunities. The post-holder will undertake technical, analytical and reporting duties after appropriate training. The post-holder will assist in the training and supervision of less experienced staff.
