Job Responsibility:

The Widening Participation Officer represents NUH at a variety of events in schools, colleges, Universities, and within our local community. The role is central to the Widening Participation activities of NUH. Widening Participation involves engaging with local people who may not consider employment in the NHS, to provide guidance on all of the opportunities that NUH as an employer provides. An especially important activity is the engagement of local people from diverse backgrounds. This supports our aspirations to be an employer of choice, to further promote our Anchor Organisation status. Some of the projects the post holder would be involved with are work experience provision, Project Search supported internships for local people with learning difficulties or disabilities, strengthening our schools engagement, leading on coordinating Health Ambassador colleagues who support us with our outreach work, and providing information, support and coordination, on our wide range of Apprenticeship opportunities. The post holder will collect and collate data, and provide this information in accessible and engaging formats to showcase our work and provide information within the organisation on meeting out targets and objectives. To act as a primary point of contact at NUH for Widening Participation programmes, establishing and maintaining good communications and working relationships at all levels, and communicating effectively and appropriately with a wide range of internal and external people at different levels of seniority across NHS and non-NHS organisations. To liaise with colleagues and stakeholders to maintain and develop placements within NUH on a number of programmes related to Widening Participation, as directed. To include Apprenticeships, Project Search, T Levels, Health Ambassadors, and any additional programmes added to the portfolio in future. To deal with queries about all Widening Participation programmes from NHS staff, education colleagues, parents and students, ensuring all matters are resolved; via mail, email and telephone. Ensuring communications relating to Widening Participation programmes are dealt with promptly and efficiently escalating when needed. To process, record and securely store information relating to Widening Participation programmes adhering to Information Governance guidance from the NHS. Create, maintain and monitor comprehensive spreadsheets/databases tracking all activity regarding Widening Participation programmes. Providing regular reports on this activity, as directed. Implement existing policies and procedures relating to Widening Participation programmes and propose changes that will improve the service. To coordinate the evaluation process for Widening Participation programmes both for attendees and staff involved in providing supervision during placements. To produce reports for NUH on these evaluations. To liaise with outside agencies in regard to Widening Participation programmes where information on health and safety checks is required and to provide information on Trusts' Employer Liability Insurance as needed. To take part in events and sessions related to Widening Participation programmes, engaging with participants and providing administrative support to the Apprentice Lead. To act independently and on own initiative, within agreed authority, ensuring that daily tasks and ongoing work priorities are completed within agreed time scales. To undertake an annual appraisal to identify any necessary personal development required to meet the objectives of the Team, and to further develop the post holder's skills, knowledge and role. The post holder will be required to undertake mandatory training as and when required, and monitor and arrange updates as necessary to ensure compliance.
