We're looking for an exceptional Vetting and Security Administrator to help us make a difference to our planet.

As our Vetting and Security Administrator, the job may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in the office and part of the week from home. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and the location advertised will be your contractual place of work.

Job description

Your world of expertise

You will be carrying out an important role in enabling the Met Office to continue provision of the services our customers require, and to maintain our reputation, by helping with the protection of our staff and assets and the confidentiality, availability and integrity of our information and data and systems.

Reporting to the Security Advisor you will work within a small team, providing administrative support in all aspects of physical & personnel security.

Your key duties

  • Manage the full life cycle of the end-to-end vetting process for new staff and contractor clearances, clearance renewals for existing staff and contractors, visiting scientists and collaborators, work experience and summer/industrial placement students, within agreed Service Level Agreements (SLA's).
  • Confirming security clearances for individuals who hold valid clearance with other government departments, initiating and overseeing the transfer process of those clearances to the Met Office and actioning upon receipt.
  • Ensure Met Office security clearance database is accurately and timely maintained to reflect an individual's current security clearance status at all times
  • Produce new Met Office photographic and temporary passes as required in an accurate and timely manner, ensuring an individual's pass matches their security clearance status and that the pass system records are up to date and accurate at all times
  • Monitor the Security e-mail box on an ongoing basis. Responding to all internal and external inquiries in a timely and professional manner, this could be via email, phone calls and face to face.

  • Be able to maintain confidentiality and security of information.
  • Experience of providing support and administration (live and breathe it).
  • Have a flexible approach to work as part of a team, able to cope with numerous priorities, activities and deadlines (better together).
  • Practical knowledge of using MS Office 365 applications, with a willingness to continue to learn and develop your skills (keep evolving).

  • £22,852 base pay.
  • An outstanding Civil Service pension, with an average employer contribution of 27%.
  • Annual Leave starting at 27.5 days (plus Bank Holidays) rising to 32.5 days (plus Bank Holidays) after 5 years and option to buy or sell up to 5 days per year of annual leave.
