About the team and the role
The Art Direction Manager for EAT at Ocado is responsible for leading the creative and visual direction of various marketing and branding projects. This role involves creating customer-led concepts, ensuring consistency with brand guidelines and flexibility across Ocado's different marketing platforms.
Regularly presenting creative work to different areas of the business, the Art Direction Manager is able to defend ideas and persuade others of their thinking through their extensive knowledge of retail, advertising and creative best practices. Ensuring they align with our visual identity and marketing goals.
They collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop concepts and campaigns, supervising a team of designers and creatives. As well as overseeing photo and video shoots to bring creative concepts to life.
The Art Direction Manager plays a key role in shaping the visual identity of Ocado, overseeing the execution of projects from concept to completion.
What you'll do
Creative Leadership
- Creative concept visuals through scamping, design and mood boards to communicate customer-led ideas.
- Build inspiring and organised concept decks for presentations that clearly communicate ideas for stakeholders across the business.
- Drawing on years of creative experience, consider graphic elements, photography styles, videography styles and more to build into toolkits for larger EAT projects.
- Provide art direction for a wide range of projects, including advertising campaigns, paid media/digital marketing, print advertising, social media content, and more.
- Collaborate with copywriters, photographers, designers, and other creative team members to develop compelling content.
Team Management
- Supervise one to three other creative professionals, providing guidance, feedback, and mentorship.
- Support during projects, work with Creative Operations and ensure timely delivery of high-quality work.
- Foster a collaborative and creative work environment, encouraging innovation and experimentation.
Brand Consistency
- Ensure all creative projects adhere to Ocado's guidelines and maintain a consistent visual identity across all touchpoints.
- Review and approve creative work (both art and copy), providing constructive feedback to maintain quality and consistency.
Photo and Video Shoot Management
- Provide art direction during shoots, ensuring that all elements align with the creative concept and brand guidelines.
- Assist the producer in organising photo and video shoots. Coordinating with photographers, videographers, and models when required.
- Develop considered and clear shot lists, set design ideas, and prop suggestions to achieve the desired visual style.
Project Management
- Coordinate with Producers, Creative Ops managers and other stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritising tasks based on business needs and deadlines.
- Communicate project status and progress to stakeholders, addressing any issues or roadblocks as needed.
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Work closely with marketing, merchandising, and other internal teams to understand project objectives and develop creative solutions that meet business goals.
- Participate in brainstorming sessions and contribute to the development of marketing strategies.
- Present creative concepts to stakeholders and incorporate feedback into subsequent presentations and assets.
Industry Trends and Innovation
- Stay up to date with industry trends, design techniques, and emerging technologies.
- Identify opportunities to incorporate innovative design elements and approaches into creative projects.
- Share industry knowledge and best practices with the creative team to encourage continuous improvement.
Who you are
- Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Fine Arts, Marketing, or a related field.
- Proven experience as a successful art director, advertising creative, or a similar role, preferably within an in-house creative agency or the retail/FMCG industry.
- Strong portfolio showcasing a diverse range of creative work and ideas.
- Proficiency in design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite) and digital tools.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively convey creative concepts to stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and work under tight deadlines.
- A passion for ideas and creative excellence.
