Job Responsibility:

1.0 Professional Take a strategic lead to ensure that processes are in place to safeguard adults from harm and identify, report and take action when risks are identified using knowledge across a wide range of practice and working environments. Lead in Identifying, developing and implementing policies, practice and guidance which follows national and local guidance and safeguards vulnerable adults. Ensure that there are robust internal procedures/guidelines within Whittington Health for Safeguarding Adults. Provide expert advice to staff at all levels of the organisation to ensure services comply to standards for safeguarding vulnerable adults. Provide information and advice to help resolve complex enquiries that may have legal, ethical and professional implications. Actively promote the role of the Safeguarding Adults Lead, Mental Capacity Act, PREVENT and Deprivation of Liberty Lead as a resource and expert in the field of adult safeguarding. Ensure that the skills and expertise required for the post are maintained and enhanced by continuing education. Represent Whittington Health at a range of Haringey and Islington Safeguarding Adults meetings and contribute to the work of Haringey and Islingtons Safeguarding Adults Board through membership of sub committees as required. Contribute to the review and updating of Haringey and Islington Multi Agency Safeguarding Adults Policies and Procedures. Implement an effective system of audit that monitors the agreed Safeguarding Adults service standards and provides quarterly and annual reports to the Safeguarding Committee and any other Trust Committee seeking assurance about safeguarding adults activity and practice. Quality Committee (A sub-committee of the Trust Board). Provide support and advice to staff required to attend strategy meetings, investigate concerns or produce statements within the safeguarding adults framework. Co-ordinate Independent Management Reviews (IMR) for Safeguarding Adult Reviews (SARs)attend related meetings and disseminate any actions and learning identified. Carry out investigations as necessary. Possess an in-depth knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act 2005, Deprivation of liberty Safeguards (2007) and other relevant legislation and statutory guidance. Liaise with leads for the Mental Capacity Act in the London Boroughs of Haringey and Islington and other health organisations. To represent Whittington Health at meetings in relation to the Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards as appropriate. Ensure that staff have access to appropriate legal advice and liaise with the legal department as required. Analyze national and local data, research and evidence in relation to safeguarding adults and disseminate as appropriate. 2.0 Managerial Ensure effective communication with service heads and matrons and managers for Safeguarding Adults issues Provide support to relevant Whittington Health services and to assess caseloads to identify at risk adults and provide supervision for the management of complex cases. Ensure that there are appropriate support systems in place for health professionals reporting and/or investigating instances of suspected/actual abuse. To support service managers in the review of service specifications to ensure they include where necessary, clear service standards are set for safeguarding adults issues. To promote a pro-active approach to Safeguarding Adults across clinical services. To participate in planning services with other agencies and encourage multi-disciplinary working. To ensure that risk in relation to Safeguarding Adults, Deprivation of Liberty safeguards, PREVENT and the Mental Capacity Act is identified and communicated to Whittington Health. To undertake or contribute to any investigations into allegations of abuse arising against Whittington Health staff where appropriate. To effectively manage budgets and resources related to the role. Line management of the Learning Disability Acute Liaison Nurse and be an active participant of the Trust Learning Disability steering group, Learning from Lives and Deaths steering groups in both Islington and Haringey, and ensuring the additional needs of patients with a learning disability can be identified and Line management of the Band 7 full time Safeguarding Adult Advisor post. 3.0 Education and Training Develop a Training Strategy that ensures that appropriate staff are trained at an appropriate level. To plan and/or deliver and evaluate Safeguarding Adults, Deprivation of Liberty and PREVENT and Mental Capacity Act training to all staff in Whittington Health. To provide training on specific issues as required. To participate in the Clinical Governance framework within the ICB To participate in multi-agency research and evaluation, practice and service development. 4.0 Development To practice within the NMC Code of Professional Conduct or the Social Work England, Wales, Northern Ireland or Scotland, or Health and Care Professions Council registration requirements and ensure expertise is maintained and developed within the Scope of Professional Practice. To maintain registration with the relevant regulatory body. To establish and maintain professional networks with other Safeguarding Adults Leads both locally and nationally. To be responsible for identifying own professional development needs.
