Job Responsibility:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Band 6 Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Practitioner to join our Team. The successful candidate will be required support the implementation of the Trust's IPC agenda and deliver against the annual work plan. The post holder will be expected to provide specialist support, deliver training and conduct quality assurance audits. This will require travel across Wales. The Welsh Ambulance Service offers a unique experience to the successful candidate to develop their skills in an unconventional health care setting which is the prehospital care environment. This post is suited for an experienced IPC practitioner or a registered professional who has a keen interest in IPC and some experience of related processes and procedures such as auditing or experience as an IPC champion. Establish and maintain proactive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders including Public Health Wales, creating open communication streams to support the Trust's objective of protecting health and reducing the transmission of Communicable Diseases and Health Care Acquired Infections. The post-holder will be expected to provide specialist advice on the management of infectious organisms and the high consequence infectious diseases, including advising on and supporting the delivery of clinical practice to ensure that IPC best practice is embedded across the Trust. The post-holder will work collaboratively with the Occupational Health Department to provide specialist advice and guidance on IPC related outbreaks and support for the Operational Managers and teams. Formulate responses to IPC related queries and requests for IPC input across WAST, ensuring advice is current and in line with agreed standards of best practice (for example NICE, Public Health Wales, Health and Care Standards etc.). Provide evidence based guidance and support in relation to estate management including water safety, construction, renovation and environmental cleanliness. The Infection Prevention and Control Practitioner will be a key member of the Infection Prevention and Control Team and will be required support the implementation of the Trust IPC agenda and deliver against the required IPC statutory requirements within the parameters outlined by strategic direction and national policy. They will provide a range of high quality evidence based Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Services to the Welsh Ambulance Service (WAST) including provision of specialised IPC advice and guidance, training and education, audit and surveillance and clinical support. The post-holder will provide specialist advice to support staff within Welsh Ambulance Service NHS Trust to meet patient's needs in relation reducing their risk of Health Care Associated Infections (HCAI's) during the time they require the Trusts services and the complexities in relation to the pre-hospital care environment.
